A Library. Really?

Received this in an email from my brother the other day:

The George W Bush Presidential Library is now in the planning stages. You'll want to be one of the first to make a contribution to this man's legacy. The Library will include:
  • The Hurricane Katrina Room, which is still under construction.
  • The Alberto Gonzales Room, where you can't remember anything.
  • The Texas Air National Guard Room, where you won't have to even show up.
  • The Walter Reed Hospital Room, where they won't let you in.
  • The Guantanamo Bay Room, where they won't let you out.
  • The Weapons of Mass Destruction Room (which they're still trying to locate).
  • The Iraq War Room, where after you complete your first tour, they will make you go back for second, third, fourth, and sometimes fifth tours.
  • The Dick Cheney Room, in the famous undisclosed location, complete with shooting gallery.

Plans also include:
  • The K-Street Project Gift Shop, where you can buy (or just steal) an election.
  • The Airport Men's Room, where you can meet some of your favorite Republican Senators.
  • To highlight the President's accomplishments, the museum will have an electron microscope to help you locate them.
  • Last, but not least, there will be an entire floor devoted to a 7/8 scale model of the President's ego.

We may be going to Texas soon, but won't be stopping here anytime soon.

Bush Declares Himself Dictator

He's finally gone and done what he's wanted to do for the past 7+ years - name himself dictator. And he has the wardrobe to prove it!

Actually, this is an AP picture from his recent travels in Africa, but WTF reason would he have for actually donning these duds? Who knows how that man's brain works? Let us all just be grateful he's got less than a year left to torment us.

Inauguration Day: Let the Countdown Begin

In almost exactly one year from the moment I am typing this (12:22 pm ET), we are guaranteed that the Bush presidency will be over. OVER, I tell you, O.V.E.R. And it can't come fast enough. It's clear that the Chimp has lost interest in the job - he can't even feign that the economic stimulus package he's proposing gives him any thrills, there's (presumably, hopefully!) no more wars to start. He's clearly playing out the string. (And, after seeing Cheney for the first time in a long time, standing behind the Chimp, it appears that he died a while back, and we're in "Weekend at Bernie's" mode.)

Next year, our new president will be giving his or her inauguration speech right at this time. (Isn't it nice to even use the word "her" and perhaps mean it?) The new president will begin a post-Bush era, but will be left will a complete mess to clean up: a war that will likely still be going on, continued threats from terrorism, environmental issues and global warming, health care concerns, losses of jobs to emerging economies in Asia, immigration problems (although I personally don't know why this is any more of a threat today than it has been since the 1800s...), etc. etc. Considering all the troubles, why would anyone want the job in the first place? But that's a subject for another day.

For the next 364 days this country will be on "hold," just waiting for the primaries to cough up two nominees, the conventions in the summer and the general election in the fall. It will likely go fast (especially at my advanced age), but the idea that we're nearing the end of having to think or hear from Bush and/or Cheney makes this one happy day for me. The only day that will beat it is January 20, 2009.

Just When You Think It Can't Get More Bizzare...

...the National Security Advisor is looking for a war czar:

WASHINGTON - President Bush's top national security adviser said Thursday that there is an urgent need to name a high-powered White House official to oversee the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

My reaction to this is to wonder which of our presidents is whirling faster in his grave: Lincoln? Eisenhower? FDR? LBJ? Call me crazy, but isn't this what being "Commander-in-Chief" means? Or,at the very least, isn't this what the Secretary of Defense does? Maybe they should give Cheney something to do so he doesn't have to lurk in the bushes doing his Peeping Tom act.

Short Takes

Interesting times, indeed...here's a catch-up on the news of the day:

  • I don't care how naive this may sound to the more jaded among us, but I, for one, will be thrilled to hear the Sargent-at-Arms tonight when the Chimp makes his entrance for the State of the Union: "Madame Speaker!................." I am old enough to remember when such a greeting was unthinkable. Now I can't wait until the person being introduced to the House of Representatives is a woman, or a person of color. I just hope Nancy can keep from putting devil ears over the chimp's head while he's speaking.
  • On the same note, I'm fairly certain I won't be supporting Hillary's bid for the presidency. I agree with those who say that a Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton series of presidencies is just not good for America. The same goes for Jeb if he were to decide to run. It's unfortunate, but if her name was anything but Clinton, I'd probably be voting for her and thrilled to have a viable female candidate run. Right now, it's Edwards and Obama for me.
  • Second best event tonight will be hearing Jim Webb's response to the State of the Union. This new senator from Virginia is royally pissed. Can't wait ::rubbing hands in glee::
  • My infatuation with Patrick Fitzgerald continues, and it appears that we may have Fitzmas after all. Did you see today's unraveling at the Libby trial? Apparently Grumpy McVP was more involved in the outing of the CIA agent after all. Bwahahahahaha. I would pay a LOT of money to watch him being grilled on the witness stand. Finally, there is someone who will force him to answer at risk of perjury. Just when I thought all was lost in this country. This is all occuring at the nick of time.
  • Yesterday's news, you ask? The Chimp's poll numbers have dropped BELOW those of Richard Nixon during Watergate. Damn. (Strangest coincidence....just as I typed this, I heard on the teevee that E. Howard Hunt of Watergate fame died today.)
  • I attended a business breakfast today in Boston, with a keynote address by our new governor Deval Patrick. I have to say that he's rather impressive - he probably has been in contact with nearly every citizen of our commonwealth in the three weeks or so since he's taken office. Can't say the same for our former goofball governor, Mitt Romney (aka The Hair)
  • A non-political note? It's only about 3 weeks till spring training. Wahooooooooooooo!

He Even Lies About His Bedtime

Well, ol' Saddam finally got what he deserved last night. But the Crawford Village Idiot supposedly didn't even take note of it.

Before the hanging was carried out in Baghdad, Mr. Bush went to sleep here at his ranch and was not roused when the news came.
This was 9 pm Central Time, folks. Do you really think he was tucked in for the night? Highly doubtful, but he's trying to portray a "what? me worry?" persona. I have a feeling that he was watching the whole thing, with his Father Complex all hanging out. "He tried to kill my Daddy. But, I killed him!"

Probably gave Laura the night of her life.

Yuck.
